What is your opinion? on being safe on the streets.

I prefer to walk around a neighborhood and feel the atmosphere. I do not like to feel scared or intimidated and can fairly easily walk "fly by wire" style, my mood and feeling take me in a safe direction.
I feel it is important to me that i feel relaxed and as safe as possible in life generally and especially when seeking sex.
One short story is.... I went to Cairns from Adelaide via Brisbane on a bus .... AND Back on a bus. 50 hours to get there. 55 hours to get back. ON A BUS! I had about 10 hours overnight in Brisbane, I decided to see if i could get lucky.
I ended up walking over the main bridge (story bridge) to the inner suburbs to look at the beautiful cityscape. I then hid my bags in the bushes of a hotel carpark and caught a nearby ferry going back to the city.
I sat alone at the back and saw no other people on board that ferry boat(over 100seats)
Halfway through the 10 minute crossing, two men, larger than me approached and stood over me and started talking to each other. They did not talk to me at all.
Not with words but with gestures and signals - one man asked the other if they should throw me over the side of the boat. They were not subtle but the other man gestured no.
I cannot swim and would likely have drowned in such a large flowing river.
This put me off my game for years. I think it was nothing but luck that saved me.

All over the world especially in the bigger cities there can be danger at anytime. What tips are there that have help you in your adventures?

I figure that most of us have had some near misses or worse. If you have any tips i would love to hear them.

My best advise is to not put yourself into situations like i did in my story - I had NO CONTROL in that situation. No "OUTS". Alone! = bad combination of circumstances.

I am a solo hunter and have never been hunting in a pack. I can see much merit in this approach and would welcome any advice/offers on this specific point.

How important is safety to you on your adventures? Are you a risk taker or are you scared to leave home? If you have a "near miss" story, I would like to hear it.

Correct, I will be in Honk Kong next week.

Correct, That was all very reckless of me and a good example of what not to do. Not just hiding my bags....
Also Wandering around a place i knew nothing about, at night, by myself.
I did no research or planning. I had no access to google maps or internet or mobile phones in 1990. BUT I DO NOW. AND I USE THEM PLENTY.
I made many mistakes that night. Those mistakes lead to a circumstance where It could have easily cost me everything.
I was 20 then. I am 44 now.
I am hoping to give some little contribution of knowledge to help others and hopefully gain some wisdom from others that have experiences to share.

In a perfect world - nobody should need to worry about their safety just because they walk the streets.
I wont give in to the bullies of the world and being forewarned and armed with knowledge to avoid them or counter them is a good idea.
One thing that helps me to stay safe on the streets is to have a large distance between drunk people and myself. Especially groups of drunk males.
It may sound obvious to some people. If we all avoid contact with people who behave badly then we passively discourage that behaviour.

Hong Kong is absolutely the safest large city you will ever set foot in … Singapore is just as safe but a smaller city

There you have it, you use common sense and you'll be safe anywhere in the city, day or night here !

Only one word of warning … just do not pull your suite case around if you're near the border with China … Also, do not buy cans of infant milk power and put them into your suitecase. These are the only things you should beware off !

Fast forward to 2015 and had security found that bag, streets would have been sealed off and the bomb squad called in.

Most of us have had close encounters, I am sure. I once walked from the Sydney CBD to Kings Cross at 11pm and had a carload of Viet gang members driving alongside me (walking speed) and eyeing me for a good minute before they drove off. Same age as you. I thought I would die or get bashed.

Twice is correct - HK is very safe, though every city is not completely danger free. Use common sense.

I grew up in the US, in several big cities along the east coast.  I was a teenager in the late 60s and early 70s.  This was a time of race riots...  of Black supremacist gangs...  of extremely racist police forces.  A friend and I were mugged by five young black guys when I was 15.  Fortunately, they just took our money.  It was a violent time.  The National Guard was on duty as a police-keeping force in my home town for 15 months.  We had a curfew.  We had to cut basketball practices short so I could get home before the curfew.

I could not help but pick up some street smarts.  So when I walk around a city, my "antenna"" are up (a little less so when I've had too much to drink).  The only times I've felt unsafe walking alone late at night have been in parts of China.  Hong Kong, Singapore, even Bangkok seem fine.  I would be hesitant to push my luck too far in Manila, though...

Have fun, CGP

Key to staying safe, anywhere, is to keep your options open

Avoid ending up in a dead-end

And stay in brightly lit open spaces, where other well-dressed people are hanging out

Aside from that, stay home, and use the internet for what it's best for: living out your fantasies behind a locked door and a glass screen ...

Kings Cross in Sydney is where all one's nightmares can come true. It was like a prison yard with no guards and plenty of drugs. VERY SCARY PLACE.
I went there once with a mate of mine. I think I was 22 at that time.
We both paid for two very hot Australian babes to take us upstairs. They were like 4th and fifth place at miss universe types. We could not believe our luck
It was very embarrassing for me because i only had my clothes of for about 5 minutes. I dont remember how much it cost but we both emptied our pockets and left with nothing.
My friend lasted about 10 mins and when he came downstairs, saw me standing at the bar.
The only positive from that night is i got out alive and unharmed. Now I know, not to go there.

Stupid things we do in our youth.  When I was in my teens (about the same time the kings cross thing happened), I lived in a country town with about 10 pubs, including a notorious Aboriginal pub - loads of fights every Friday night.  I was invited to the pub one time with a guy who broke horses for a living.  He was white but went there regularly.  I went with him one time and got drunk with the patrons there and ended up boning a half-white/half-black girl in an alley behind the pub, near some guys who had passed out.  Young, dumb and full of cum.
