Responding with a QUOTE:

When replying to a post, if you are starting your post with a quote from the previous post, how do you get the quoted portion to appear in a separate box with the title "QUOTE:"?

I often find it convenient to include a portion of the article I am responding to in the new message I am sending. So far I have been unable to include the quoted text as a stand alone portion as I have often seen in other posts. Anyone care to give me the heads up on accomplishing this?

Thanks

just cut/paste the text you want, click on quote function, you will see the cmd text which encapsulates the quote at the beginning and end of the text so leave these as is but overlay you "cut" text on top and away you go. Do a "preview post" to check it worked okay.

Commands are in square brackets, and the command to create a quote box is quote (inside square brackets) followed by /quote to show the end.

Obviously I can't show it here otherwise it'll turn into a quote, but it looks like this:
{quote} .... {/quote}  using square brackets instead of curly ones.

Like this

QUOTE:

you mean doing a quote box like this?  Easy, surround the text with the characters "[xxquote]" and then "[/xxquote]"  (Replace xxquote with quote).

W, check my post#2.

I just left clicked on the "quote" tab at the bottom of the post pane, i.e.:

[Edit]  [Quote]  [Report]  [Rating] [Reply] top.

Then this appeared in my response pane, except I have changed the first and last characters so you could see the cmds text, { = '[' , and } = ']' :
{quote]Originally posted by waldo at 6-12-2009 05:19

So you can now see the cmds. I prefer to just cut/paste what I want and overlay the unwanted text, less keystrokes.

The 'QUOTE' response is also useful if you want advanced editing versus the simple 'REPLY'. In which case you just delete all the text in the pane and off you go.

Thanks so much ..... I think I see the process now. It appears that the "quote" button copies the whole message and then you simply backspace out any thing you want excluded?

Waldo, why I do believe you have got it!!

Tip, often what you want to quote may be text that does not conveniently sit in the first sentence or so, hence my comments on cut/pasting the text you want to quote. I think you now owe us two reports!
