My girl once asked me a question. At that time, I wasn't sure why all of a sudden she asked that but I'll ask forum members. Which is more important to you or another way of saying is "which would you lose first" if given the choice between your son/daughter, mother/father, money, friends or husband/wife. Rate yours in terms of which would you give up first.

Strange question and I don't think any westerner would be able to choose between son, daughter, mother, father, wife. But many of us [even if we don't like to admit it] give up friends to pursue our careers and seek our fortunes in other countries.

I've asked this to Asian friends and they knew the first two that they would give up first. I think those two are easy. For me it would be my money first of all, then my friends. The last three in which order i can't really say. The last three are all important to me so it is a coin toss.

Slight bit of caution when answering this question.  The results might come true.  These kinds of questions are dangerious because it makes you understand where your priorities are.  However if you understand them well enough things happen to the way you want them to happen.

OK if you're facing the real situation you might have to make a call.  But the reality (if you look at situations where people did have to make a choice) is a) in the live situation you can and will make a choice very quickly AND b) the actual choice you make is HIGHLY situational, and changes depending on your age at the time, the precise circumstances, who has the better chance of survival, etc etc.  

The other reality is if we THINK in terms of choices being either/or options, that's the way we'll start to act.  Much better to think (and practice thinking) in terms of both-and.  

As a question it would be so much healthier (mental health that is) to ask "which would you save first" ... a bit like the airplane oxygen-mask question ... asking "which would you lose" is just twisted and depressive.  

VG, best way to answer your girl is "you're thinking too much, ask me what sort of beer I prefer instead".

That's a pretty dismal view you have of my situation. you dont ever think that it can work out. Now I am not saying it's going to be easy but it seems like you think I should'nt even take that chance.

for me, probably something like friends, wife, money, parents, son, in that specific order.  As mentioned in the "unhappy" thread I've pretty much given up on friends and wife as it is...

hear you about the friends part. I would like to believe that I can still rely on my wife when I do get to that stage. But friends are useless. Doesn't matter if tehy're best freinds, sooner or later, they're fuck you in the ass no matter what. But I havent been married yet and I want to believe that it's gonna last.

Friends are always the first to go. As soon as you move away, for uni, or work, you soon drift apart. When you see them again, you have nothing in common. The big problem, as you get older, is that it becomes more and more difficult to make new friends. Soon, you just have aquantancies, but no real friends. That's where a wife comes in - she becomes your best, maybe your only friend.

Btw, maybe a mistake to put son ahead of parent. A son will leave you first chance he gets, but a parent will always want you. This is western - maybe Chinese is different.

I probably would agree with that. At first I might have put money to go first, then friends. But since I was fucked by a close friend recently, I'll put friends first than money. Like you said, at least with money, I can still find new "short term" girlfreinds.
