Airplane Amenties

Hey bros,

I got a question bout traveling to asia...

I'm heading there next week for my trip of 6 weeks... that trans-atlantic flight is just gonna kick
my ass i know it. To keep myself entertained, I plan on bringing with me a whole whack load of
electronics... does anybody know what kind of outlets and plug ins are available on the plane?
do the screens have usb/video inputs? are there outlets? blah blah blah?

i'm flying with cathay pacific and korean air... if that helps..

thanks!!!

on Cathay, in business class they have power points in the seats. In the NEW configuration planes they also have this in economy but only the new config. Not sure about Korean but the hostesses will be so gorgeous you wont need electronics... just sit back and enjoy.

As Twice said, you should check the Cathay Pacific website.

If you are flying on one of the new configuration aircraft, you don't have much to worry.

A short breakdown is like this:

Business Class
+interactive on-demand music, games, and movies, there are tons of movies, tv shows, and other content, so your flight will be over before you know it.  Typically on a trans-pacific flight i may watch two or three movies, coupled with sleep and some work, makes short work of the flight.
+power socket - configured as a multi-adapter .. any plug will fit into it, you only get one though
+overnight kit - cream, shaving, toothbrush blah blah, best are the earplugs

Economy
+interactive on-demand music, games, and movies, but a lower selection
+power socket - only one I believe, although I'm not certain with this
+overnight kit - just a cheaper brand of gear thrown in

If you are flying the older configuration, scrap the power socket, it's not usuable generally.  And the movie selection blows, and in Economy it's not on-demand from what I understand.

I generally fly Business, but with the new configuration, Economy isn't too bad.

I always look at the configuration when booking my flight, it's easy to tell on the website which is which.

Korea air is worthy, the air hostesses will give you their phone numbers and email addresses quite readily.

Cathay is great for long flights especially when you compare it to any US airline. I haven't tried Korea Air myself, but have heard good things about it.

Korean is pretty good, I was on it from Toronto to Korea to HK for 800 bucks economy. Good deal.  On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd give it at least an 8.  The food was crap but that's all airlines.

No reason to expect good food out of airlines. It is usually which airline has the least crappy food.

Cathay's food is generally ok, although it can't touch Emirates.  That's just sinful.

First class on Cathay is amazingly good, althought I find the price tag very low in value, all things considered.

I like the drinks on JAL though.

I'm a Cathay fan. They have overall great service and with the new configuration as everyone has stated includes most of the amenities. especially on economy and business (they include the toiletries).

JAL is ok, the one thing i like is all the snacks you can grab that's left available in the middle of the plane area

Big fan of Cathay but I've only tried it on short flights around Asia. Planning to take a transpacific flight back to the east coast later this year.

Cathay's food and service is really good compared to other airlines, but it is the exception to the rule. I have never tried Emirates, what made it so good?

In general it seems that the big Asian airlines are much better than US ones.

Sure Simon flew in from the US and snagged 3 email addresses and 2 phone numbers, we thought it would come to NOTHING but 2 of them actually did respond and go out on a date with him, I don't know what happened but he didn't come back to the hostel for a couple of days.

Never found out what happened though as I had to leave for China on the 2nd day.

I think Singapore Airlines have the edge over Cathay Pacific.  Recently went on their A380, and every seat, including economy, had power sockets.  Definitely go the http://www.seatguru.com and check in ahead of time to secure the best seat on the plane.  If you are going A380, make sure you go for the upper deck section.

You can do that on United too, but with a United stewardess you're getting 3 times as much woman.

I didn't do it.  Really I didn't.

And quite likely 2-3x the years!

Oh, and another seat/flight description site that seems decent is http://seatexpert.com.  I've been using seatguru for a couple years but got recommended to http://seatexpert.com.

Safe travels!

I don't know how to describe it except to say Emirates business class would put a lot of First Class cabins to shame.  The food is simply really good, doesn't taste like it's been prepared on ground and then nuked up at 37,000 ft.

Check it out on the airline's site.

http://www.emirates.com/english/flying/dining/business_class.aspx

North american airlines suck beyond belief.  I avoid it whenever possible.
