Happy Chinese New Year

Chinese New Years is 6 days away and so I would like to take this opportunity to say "Gong Xi Fa Cai" to my fellow mongers. For the Chinese and Asian community, it is a time to reflect, share and enjoy time with family and friends. It is also a time to wish everyone good fortune and happiness for the coming year. I've been on this forum and sharing my views and learning from others for a little under a year now and there have been great times and great controversies, on my part at least, but it's all a learning experience and most importantly it was fun. Let's continue with it and have this year as great as the last. Wish everyone here a happy chinese new year. Enjoy

I use taiwan pinyin because taiwan supports the traditional characters that HKers use.

They are on every copy of windows i believe. Im running XP Professional at the mo. No additional software required, just a few clicks at the control panel (needs original CD ROM)

Since JeSun took care of all the other ways of saying it, I will write it in simplified:

恭喜发财!

I am using Microsoft's Pinyin Input Method Editor. Take a look at the link for how to get it to work.

PCs running Windows OS generally need add-on software as I understand it.  Macs have the input systems built-in to the OS, so not really sure about software names to tell you.

And Happy New Year to everyone else as well!

There are a couple of ways I do it, depending on which computer I am using.  On a couple of my laptops, I use NJStar Communicator, which is a nice shareware typer that can use many different forms of input - Pinyin, Yale (Cantonese), CTLee (Cantonese), Zhuyin (Taiwan Mandarin), and so on.  I can also use Microsoft IME for Chinese, which is fairly easy to use but not as comprehensive as NJStar.  You first install Microsoft IME, then pick out the languages that you need.  It's on your Windows CDs as mentioned above by bros banger and aaa888.

In the absence of both, I can use mandarintools.com to do a lookup for each character, then cut and paste.  The good thing about their English-Chinese dictionary is that I can use English to look up words I don't know, and it comes out in both Traditional and Simplified.  Zhongwen.com is also pretty good for looking things up, but for some reason they disabled copy and paste.

I'm now looking for a good Cantonese online dictionary that can output some of the Cantonese-only words such as what? (maht yeh) and tired (gui), either using an English word or a Yale Cantonese word.  Anyone know of one?

Happy (early) New Year to all you bros too!

That reminds me, I once gave a provider the donation amount in a lucky red envelope cuz I didn't have any more discreet plain envelopes.  It was a white girl but she didn't care as long as the correct amount was there!

More appropriate for this forum :

恭喜射精

I made this up by taking liberties with the language.

The ideal WG is a sweet pussy cat in public and a TIGER in the bedroom so that makes this the year of the Mongerer! It's gotta be good right!

One person I know gives ( passes out ) red envelope to the mommies every year and to a few of the girls.  I don't believe it was too much. It's very nice of him. The bad part, now each year they expect the red envelopes when they see him.
