You heard mixed reviews because not everybody know about Floor B.
If you need to change money in the airport follow the directions for the Airport Rail Link Train and go down to floor B.
Next to the ticket machine for the train you will find 5/6 exchange (super rich, value +, etc.) with very good rate.

This is exactly what I do in BKK.

Down to the basement floor with the Airport Rail Link. Several forex booths are there. Superrich continues to have the best rates from USD, but really the difference is tenths of a cent. You really need to be exchanging thousand$ for there to be a worthwhile difference. I exchange everything at the airport because I don't want to bother doing it again later elsewhere. Every time I've walked past Vasu at Nana BTS there's been a large crowd of people inside.

The ARL is 45 baht plus another 34 baht from Phaya Thai BTS to Asok BTS and that's 79 baht and about 60 minutes of travel assuming you're not waiting too long for a train. A taxi with tolls all in is 400 baht and also 60 minutes. Though in the future I may do taxi again for the convenience. Uber is also available.

You are right about Vasu having a line most of the time. I would say that even with a line I’ve never waited over 10 minutes.

I always use Uber since it came online in BKK. $10 USD for a ride from the airport to my hotel is cheap.

I always change 1000 RMB in China. There is a shop near me that gives a good rate, better than airports.

I usually pre book a car online through facebook, I forgot the name of the page but I can check. It is not as cheap as a taxi but very comfortable. After all, I am not going to BK to save money

I was happy when introduced to Vasu as I do take some cash with me for the first few days. But I usually visit ATM there.

there's also another branch at asoke BTS.
its opposite the ticket machine on the entrance to terminal 21.
no ticket required.

another note, there's also a money exchange above thermae that offers the same rates as superrich,
best thing, no passport check required.

i don't know about anyone else, but i don't like carrying important documents around with me when i'm whoring...

I guess it is being checked too often in different places, but I always carry my passport with me. Just a habit.

It has kept me from complications a number of times in Europe and in Asia.

I fully understand the risk, that’s why I do the two passport system you can sign up for here in the US. One in the room and one in my pocket.

I prefer LT (like you I presume) and there are lots of options. You can get decent 6-7/10 girls usually about the 3500bht mark. Obviously, if you want the stunners (ie gogo) it will be upwards from there, but I've found the best punts to be the girls not actually 'advertising' themselves as WG, such as those working the reataurants and bars. Can't give definitive answer, but here's a couple of examples of my experiences other than 'traditional' punts...
