From my experience (definitely limited), you better be able to speak Mandarin if you hope to even negotiate a quick trip upstairs with the girl. I have only done a street walker once around Temple Street.  Cost $350 if I remember right.  It was pretty good.  But yes language is an issue if you do not speak Chinese.  You can use your fingers to negotiate the price - but Chinese have a different system even here.  I was recently encountered a SW - I think she wanted $500, but could not be sure what she was trying to communicate.   I think the police do occasionally crack down on Temple Street.  Just be alert to your surroundings.  Lets us know how you go.
