HK law is 50/50

even if you originally signed a contract that stipulates a different arrangement

now, if your wife is a rich bitch and YOU signed a prenup agreeing to take a small slice, HK law IS in your favour

I think Dart already explained your mistake in post #42

As for China, the law does allow for prenuptial agreements and that they are enforceable.

Not exactly right.

Hong Kong's divorce laws are modelled on the English common law - and was drawn up to protect the rights of wives (and make sure that the "State" don't have to foot the bill for the bastard hubbie!!).

The first and guiding principle that Hong Kong Family Law Courts will adhere to is that the wife/kids will NOT suffer any degradation to the lifestyle that they had been enjoying when the family was still a unit.  That means that even when they are divorced, the hubby's still got to provide the same "standard of living" including equivalent levels of accomodations, schooling for the kids, regular family vacations - even Gucci Bags if that is what the family lifestyle had been!

Parental rights to kids - wives wins hands down!  If she wants the kids, the court's gonna give them to her.... and the hubby's gotta foot all the bills!!

So that 50-50 is MOSTLY wrong.  Yes, you got a kidless couple - it's probably 50-50.  Couple with 2 kids - it's 75% for the wife and kids and 25% for the hubby.  Argue this - what =- anybody gonna argue about providing for their own kids?

Sour grapes on my part??  You betcha!!

OMG all these stories is scaring me. I might just stay single for a while until I am bored of WGs or be lucky enough to find a girl who accept it and might even join you, rare but I've know there are girls who are like that.

Scare you it should!!

Hell hath no fury like a woman...."

Sometimes I really wonder about marriages.

You need to pass a driving test before they give you license and NOTHING to get married??  To procreate? To agree to your WHOLE life to do something!

the thought's just too depressing!

I had a customer say to me that Marriage is like a terrible cell phone plan, you will get reamed if you try getting out of the contract and it's better if you do pay as you go !

Not according to a friend of mine who recently went through the clea ... oops, sorry:- courts - he started out thinking it was all going to be fair and gentlemanly (he's filthy rich btw) - then his wife's lawyers came on stream ...

I gather the law was changed recently, making it 50/50 regardless of the usual arguments.

I do worry, as I walk oout of 37D from time to time with a smile on my face. If I walked out of a large building with lots of busiesses in side I could maybe slide by in a lie but walking out of 37D with its flashing lights and big signs it is kind of obvious what you have been doing in that building.

My wife does not habitually frequent the areas where where I go for fun, but I could just see one of her friends ring her and tell her that she saw me coming out of 37D or one of those places where the goings on are pretty obvious.

I wish some of these places had a back door in an alley I could slip out of.

Wait a minute....

So are you guys saying that there's no such thing as a prenup in Hong Kong?
Or that you can do a prenup, but it's just a worthless piece of paper?

OMG, I just read this:
http://www.iaml.org/iaml_law_jou ... ong_kong/index.html

Holy crap!
So an agreement that both parties sign, with lawyers present.... ends up being just a "suggestion"???
Something is soooo wrong with this....

So if I sign up for a cellphone plan in HK to get a cheaper price on a phone, can I just pay the first month only, and stop without any penalties?
I mean... the agreement I signed was just a suggestion, right?  RIGHT?!

If memory serves me correctly, as you leave 37D you are literally in an alleyway and if you turn right then you go onto a main road but if you turn left then you can blend in a little before hitting the intersection.  Regardless, you may have some exposure while leaving 37D, just go with the flow...
