Are there any 'mixed' guys here?

I'm a racially confused mixed guy, and I've never really had a problem with race or language in HK, as I speak both Canto and Eng.

Actually, the only problems I've ever had were with some BBCs in the UK. Most were really nice, but one or two had serious attitude problems about my race.

WGs seem to love it though. Maybe we are 'exotic'

Hey  guys u forgot about Australian born Chinese which also = ABC !

I am an ABC and the girls seem to enjoy it. They think when I speak in Cantonese it is cute, and they are interested in my background. Definitely not a problem.

I definitely agree with the earlier poster that ABC / BBC / CBC etc, particularly if you can communicate well in Chinese with the WG, many times will find they are subjects of intrigue for them.  I am none of these, being HBC (Hong Kong born Chinese) but had spent a lot of time in the US.  I constantly confuse waitresses, flight attendants and WGs with my identity and I get into interesting converations with them because of it.  A few times that developed into more than causual conversations.  I was told it was the personal style, the way the language was spoken and how these WBC (Western Born Chinese) seem to be more polite, engaging and considerate.  So use these assets well!

I recall a massage girl asking me something really strange like, do americans eat raw beef?  Spent a whole 200 min massage on talking about america alone.

Having lived and worked in several Asian countries over the years and for some reason been attracted to Asian communities even when I lived and worked in the UK and Canada, I've been really lucky with having Asian GFs and a wife who is a Hong Kong lady. I've also been called an EGG as I'm white on the outside, in fact very white, but yellow on the inside. I have been out a few times with a bunch of ABCs, CBCs and BBCs and none of them spoke very much Chinese and it was rather funny when waitresses discovered that the only gwailo in the group spoke better Chinese than any of the ethnic Chinese guys. My Canto is very simplistic and Mandarin a little bit better as I worked for several years in Taiwan, but I still beat those overseas born Chinese.

  I had that happen in Bangkok once a couple of years ago.  A former Chinese GF (born in Shanghai, but raised in the US), who was then going to business school in Singapore, came to visit me for the weekend.  We went out for lunch one day.  The waitress brought two menus, gave her one in Thai, and me one in English.  Since about 15 percent of Thais are Chinese, this was a natural assumption to make.  But the waitress was very surprised when we switched menus!

sense that you're financially better (just the fact that most english speaking countries currencies are higher than HKD)

None of the HGs speak English - 95+% speak only Mandarin and possibly some provincial dialect. The girls from NE China speak only Mandarin.

It's now always a good thing to be ABC/BBC/CBC or whatever.  I'm ABC myself, and when I'm with mainland chinese girls, they may seem more interested and "into" you because you are...well, less rare.  However, thats usually all it is--simple curiosity.  Many of these WGs are smarter than you think, and though we are a minority, we are not as rare as you might think, especially in cities known for attracting a lot of overseas punters such as ourselves.  A few WGs I met in DG a few years ago told me they have met ABC/BBC/CBC, and that they are better mannered, more refined, etc... than their mainland counterparts.  However, these ABC/BBC/CBC also know that they are better mannered and more refined, and may come off as being seen as arrogant and aloof.  The WGs definitely dont dislike better mannered men, but it doesnt also mean that they simply blush when they see our banana asses either.

From what I have gathered talking to the WG in DG is that they appear to enjoy Singaporean guys the best as they are the most well mannered out of all.

I've found this to be true while I was in HK. Most WGs are fascinated, if not shocked, that ABCs and CBCs still speak cantonese having not been born in HK.

yes, the general consensus of all the girls I've met in china, working girl or civilian, is that foreign-born or foreign-raised people have more manners. I've heard horror stories of how the mainland locals treat the girls.

But every once in a while, I still see a cocky bunch of punk ABC/CBC/BBC/etc kids strutting around thinking they are superior. I guess it can get to you head pretty easily.....

In my field of work, I hear lots of nasty stories about how working women (not WG's but manufacturing workers) are treated by their SO and often wonder about the horrible things they are forced to do.

One woman was forced to place her finger into a stamping machine so that she could collect the Insurance, give it to her man, who then reneged on his promise to open up a convenience store with her and ran off.

It's hard to be a woman in China...lets be good to our WG's.

Never had a problem with HGs not liking ABCs...in fact probably the opposite...on the otherhand language skills do make it better...had some cantonese speaking ones (I don't understand canto) and it loses something in the translation

What does mainlander understanding english have to do with anything?
The fact that you speak it lets them know you're not a local
