Apple's Going To Launch A $200 iPhone

They need it badly for share in China//And one analyst, Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray, thinks that that's exactly what Apple is going do.

In 2014, Munster thinks, Apple will roll out a $200 iPhone (unsubsidized).

That is cheap. It can beat many competitors, particularly those made by small CHinese manufacturers who immitate foreign branded products.

the other big competitors for iphone are android phones like samsung or HTC. the samsung galaxy S3 has been real successful, but I am sure others will come out with newer ones over time.

Apple won't launch a $200 phone. What it will do is sell a 2011/12 repackaged unit at the lower end market. Apple is not too troubled by everyone else fighting there. Let people fight over high volume & low margins, as a very high % of phones will be by 2014

That is good! Basically, this is driven by the competition in the market.  WIthout Android, Apple will never provide iphone at this price.

The lure of the iPhone in China is the price and exclusivity.  The OS is not very good for Chinese users (hard to write) compared to a customized Android OS.  Idoubt Apple will actually do this, and if they do, it might end up hurting them.
