Mates!

I will be in Hong Kong in late September and intend to "work" the clubs at Jaffe Road etc. I love to eat and punt, so where do you stop-over for dim sum/bowl of noodles etc. when you walk between e.g. Neptune II, Escape? Any hints are highly appreciated and i like as well local (cantonese) as well as most other styles.

Thank you!

I've never been to the pubs to punt.... But I work around that area so here are some of my suggestions...

I've also heard that the food at the pubs around Neptune II are 'OK'...not bad, not good...

Look these places up to see their location and reviews at www.openrice.com, there is an "english" icon so you will be able to work the website no problem

1. Flying Pan - open 24hours, an all day breakfast joint
http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=15480
2. To Yuen - further away, is a classic 'cha chan tang' great food and cheap, avoid if you can't speak any chinese at all
http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=10319
3. Wing's Catering -  you come here and you order the chicken, and lotus root cake rice... you won't regret it
http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=16687
4. 8 Happiness - this is a chain, owned by the Maxim Group...very fairly priced!!
http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=23262
5. Sun King Yuen Curry Restaurant - don't go durning lunch time..go after 2:30pm
http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=3332
6. Kam Fung, come here for a pineapple bun or chicken pie, and get a glass of their iced milk tea it's probably the best in HK

Most of these places I've recommended are very local, and are within a 15min walk from Neptune 2... If you can't speak cantonese... don't go..except for 1. and 4.

oh fuck...I decided to help you out by put the openrice links here for you.... Enjoy kid

When i was i HK, i stayed at Novotel in Wanchai area. There are not many choices, especially late at night.
but
Wan Chai is in walking distance from Causeway Bay. There are so many restaurants in Causeway Bay.
some of them open till midnite.

This is only based on my experience, coz i dont live in Wan Chai area.

Hmmm.... talk about coincidences.

I came back to Hong Kong just now and the SO asked me to meet her at a new fabulous Malaysian restaurant somewhere in Jaffe Road that her friend took her to lunch to last week - and so of course, Off I went.

Guess what the address is??
#100 Jaffe Road

And guess where's its right next door to?
Neptune's 2!!

MAN, am i glad that I came back to town just a bit earlier and thus had an early dinner; And  of course I scarfed the food down ASAP to be able to get out of there ASAP!

By the way - it IS pretty good Malaysian food - SABAH restaurant - great curries, Rendang beef, fried Turnip cake, cendol etc etc and quite cheap too.  Satays were a bit dry though.

SEAJ...that place is "OK" but for the price I'd say it is terrible...if you like that type of food I recommend this place:

Asian Family
http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=50007

and this place is also on Jaffee Road...Really good Laksa!
Katong Laksa Prawn Mee   加東叻沙蝦麵
http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=15291

If you want some higher end restaurant suggestions I can do that as well...but everything I've recommended so far is cheap and 'local' nothing restauranty...

I used to go there a lot SEAJ - I like it, I think the food is great. I was in the area yesterday too around 3ish.

I got some food in the white stag - an English pub, good food there & big bloody portions!

Great info from paka - I enjoy the flying pan!

Another good local one is 'Hay Hay Kitchen' - if you can ever get a seat there!

OMG... Petay are you ... okay I'm not being racisit..but I do think white folk and locals in HK have HUGE differences of opinion when it comes to food...

"Hay Hay Kitchen" is shit...if you want good "sui mei" as in "BBQ pork/duck/goose" etc... this is the place you want to go too...

Roast Pot   南燒北鍋
http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=41605

And then of course you have the option of going to:
Yung Kee Restaurant   鏞記酒家
http://www.openrice.com/english/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=4203
I know I know...most people will say that it's 'nothing special' well, how special do you think Chinese BBQ is going to get? If you come here, don't order the 'dishes' just get the BBQ...get the Roast Suckling Pig and the Roast Goose...and a bowl of plain rice, plain congee, or plain 'lai fun'/'ho fun'...something like that and maybe get a 'yao choi' (plain boilded chinese vegetable)...

For two people this will still set you back about $300-400 for lunch...LOL but I do think it is the best!

I've heard some good things about the White Stag actually.... There is a good dim sum restauarant near there as well...I can't remember the name let me look....

not sure if you want local food or other but I agree the White Stag (English Pub) is good. I also like Heat for Tapas. Both these on Lockhart opposite Escape.

There is a Bar Guide sticky in the CHAT section. Most of these Bars serve OK food.

I have enjoyed a steak at the Outback Steakhouse cnr Lockhart / Fenwick (1st floor above 7/11)

But for an excellent steak jump in a cab and go to Jimmy's Kitchen, Wyndham Rd Central.

Also on Lockhart, Mes Amis has great food, tapas style finger food with a Mexican influence.

Hi TonyToro,

sorry for the delayed answer. I was looking more for local/international kitchen. I have enough English Pub food in London I will check out the tips of Paka and SEAJ plus your Mes Amis. I definitely revert after i tried. I don't speak Chinese (beside Ni hao, xhe xhe) so some restaurants will not be possible for me.
