GPS coordinates for walk-ups, etc.all

Bro's,

Is there a web site that includes the GPS coordinates or Google Earth KML files for all of the locations in the db?  Seems like something that would be of good use, especially since some of the google maps are a little off.

Thanks,
S

Life is supposed to fun and part of the fun is getting lost and discovering new places.  GPS is like horse-blinders.  If you read some of the reports, some bros discover great wgs who are not are on this db because they followed their instincts.

You don't need GPS.  Just learn to read google maps or centamap (local internet map).

There's no co-ordinates, but all GPS aren't going to be exact to a tee (correct me if I'm wrong) My iPhone sometimes says I'm 3km away from the actual destination in Hong Kong..

It's not hard to walk to the street and just look for building numbers, as doghead said, it's a bit fun when you need to find the address and look around for a place. Treasure hunt?

Huh????? You gotta be pulling my leg!!

For some time now the DB entries all include a precise Google Maps location of the girl's address.  Best thing is for you to open the google maps window, and print off the map for your reference.  You can even print off detailed step-by-step directions (walking or driving) from where you are or maybe from the nearest MTR exit.  And if you REALLY want to you can even generate your own KML or upload the coordinates to your GPS (e.g. Garmin does this seamlessly).  But why would you want to?????

A map is better than GPS simply because Hong Kong is full of tall buildings.  GPS just don't work reliably in the concrete canyons.  It just won't get you to the door.
OK I'll admit I have used it a few times   but more for fun than because it's especially useful.

Seriously: low-tech is better.  Just print out the map.

Makes Sense...

I wondered whether the tall buildings would block the GPS.  The geek in me wants to make it as easy as possible to score.  No fuss, no muss, and straight to the girls.  Having never been in HK, I didn't know how easy it is to navigate.  I won't have access to a printer, but I do have my blackberry.  So I'll just see if I get close using Google Maps, and rely on the pics of the apt's to guide me.

Thanks All!

I suppose you are from US, too?  It is easy to navigate as long as you have the basic map reading skills.  Follow the instructions on the map and noted the MTA station exit, you can't go wrong.

... Having never been in HK ...

I see you're from New York.  Since both HK and NY are former British Colonies you should find plenty of familiar cues to help you find the way around.  Street names.  Building numbers.  English alphabet.  Arabic numerals.  Etc.

But yes, if you want 100% certainty you would do well to print out some of your top target addresses on a map before coming (a map is innocent enough to carry with you, right?).  I find it a bit easier to handle, and stands out less, than walking down the street gazing at a PDA ...

Certainly yes, you can use Google Maps while you are here.  It can work with GPS, but is as likely to show an incorrect current location as a correct one, so best just to use it as a static map.  Your final 100 yards or so will need to be navigated using your built-in Eyeball Navigation System.

BTW if you are using roaming, beware of GPRS data charges: when you are roaming they tend to be HUGE.  Either that or buy a local sim and make sure the local sim includes data.
