Where is a good place to buy lens for DSLR Camera

Hi guys;

I am a new photographer and has just got a present from the wife. She got me a Canon 450D DSLR Camera.

I need some advice, where is a good place in Hong Kong to purchase the Lens - both Original and Compatibles (Sigma Brand) for my Camera Body?

Thanks in advance for your kind info.

Wanchai computer center there's a Macdonalds on the G/F, directly opposite it is a camera shop
(MTR exit in between Mac and the shop)
That shop's price is a lot better then most places
Make sure you get a good lens F2.8 or under (F2 if you are willing to spend) as digital pictures need more light
and taking pics of girls is best without flash !

Camera specialist shop in Mongkok > http://www.wingshingphoto.com/
Another specialist in Mongkok > http://www.dcfever.com/

Thank A-P & Twice;

You are always there when ones need you. Actually, my camera comes with a 28-105MM lens,, but I am old school. I am looking for fixed 50MM F1.4 If Canon is too expensive, will settle for Sigma lens.

No problem bro

I'm a camera geek as well but am a Nikon follower. Should try to stick with the Canon lens as you will notice the quality and build over time and you might regard not spending a little extra...

Before you buy as always, get the sales staff to let you try both lens (from Canon and Sigma) to see the differences.

Sure, will heed your advice. Anyway, I used to have a Nikon FM2 SLR C/W a 50MM F2.8, 110-300MM Zoom F3.8 and an excellent fixed 105MM F1.2 - all originals. As they don't make them anymore, I sold all of it to a collector for a good profit. Have stopped taking photography as a hobby. Only using those fool-proof pocket camera for my exploits.

I will go to those established places. And going to Japan? Kidding right? All I want is a lens, not the whole collection! Thanks for your advice though.

You can compare prices in HK by using the web.

www.the-digital-picture.com/
www.dpreview.com

Edit: Forgot some places like Canada and the USA, there is tax and shipping cost to consider

Thank Bro Weelock for more advice. I am pretty sure the prices in Hong Kong can't be far off than what you quoted. Hong Kong and Singapore are amongst the best places to purchase electronics gadgets.

Tin Cheung Camera Shop in TST is excellent.  Photo Scientific in Central is excellent also.  Have used both of these shops, good prices and trustworthy.

Sim City, 47-51 Shantung Street. http://www.tincheungcamera.com.hk/contact-us.php
This place has quite a few retailers of 2nd hand and new cameras. And given your history with cameras, you shouldn't have too much problems testing the 2nd hand lens. I'd definitely have a look atSim City prior to purchasing.

Having said that, I just purchased a Nikon 35mm f1.8 at Man Shing. If you're looking for any official imports in Hong Kong, they're likely to have it. Man Shing is at: 104-106 Tung Choi Street, Mongkok.
