Are We Here To Please Mods Or To Exchange Information and Conversation

So our man DABest figures a thread, while actively being discussed, is (in his opinion) "going no where" and deserves to be closed.

I was surprised by that, but maybe I just don't know the rules around here.  The thread in question was, after all, in Monger's Lounge which is more of a place for all of us to kick back and shoot the shit, or so I thought.

So bitch slap me if I'm being uppity, but shouldn't we let threads run for as long as folks are contributing?  Don't we want posters contributing?  I totally understand that the on point sections (reviews) should be precisely that: on point, but isn't Monger's Lounge about a more rambling conversation?
