Thanks! In many asian countries, "Jap" is used freely as a contraction of "Japanese" rather than as a derogatory term.
Many restaurants/supermarket in Singapore uses the word "Jap" freely too. e.g "Fresh Jap Tomatoes", "Today Special: Braised Beef with Jap Cucumber"
i handle hundreds of Japanese customers every year.
99.99% of them are apathetic to the term.
mostly only westerners find this term derogatory.
reason is because of during WW2, the newspapers use the term "Jap" to refer to Japanese.
and during that period of time, everybody hates the Japs..
so everyone came to associate Japanese = Hatred = Jap = Insulting Term | |
