I use GPS on my iPhone and here are some options, assuming that your iPhone is unlocked:
a.) Get a local sim card with data access. The Peoples prepaid cards do this. I think it'll be on EDGE, but for GPS and mapping purposes it won't matter.
b.) Install a GPS app with onboard maps and turn on the GPS (Location Services) on your iPhone. Having onboard maps is very important because then the phone will load maps from your device rather than downloading. I use TomTom and have the maps for Canada and Hong Kong & Macau. Be warned that running a GPS and mapping app will use a lot of the iPhone's battery. With TomTom running, the battery on my iPhone 3GS lasts under three hours. | |
